The Friends of Honduras Society (FOH) is a small, locally run, Canadian Charity staffed by volunteers. FOH does not have any rented/leased/owned office space and the Society has no paid positions. Virtually all of the funds donated to FOH go to support the children & people in Honduras through the schools in Retiro and Macueliso and the development of the medical clinic in Retiro.
Donations to FOH are used to purchase food, school supplies and school uniforms for the children at the schools. Donated funds are also used to build, maintain and upgrade the school buildings, grounds and facilities. FOH has also built a medical clinic in a small renovated house adjacent to the school in Retiro which will, with visiting medical teams provided by the government in Honduras, provide much needed medical care to the children at the school as well as to the people in the surrounding communities.
The only expenses that are paid for by donated funds are the costs of having an accountant audit the FOH books (as per the government rules & guidelines) and the cost of receipts/stationary/envelopes/postage to send out donation tax receipts at the end of the year.
The costs for developing and maintaining this website, for the FOH Christmas cards & postage and for the Directors FOH business cards, are all paid for by the Directors or by donor funds designated for that specific purpose. The cost of any trips to Honduras, including airfare, accommodation, food and in-country transportation, are all personally paid for by the participants on each particular trip.
