January 2021
Notice of the Annual General Meeting of the Friends of
Honduras Society: Because of constraints on in-person meetings caused by the
COVID 19 pandemic, the Friends of Honduras Society Annual General Meeting for
2021 will be held via a ZOOM meeting on February 23, 2021 commencing at 7 PM
(PST). If you would like to join/attend the meeting please send
us an email from this webpage and you will be emailed a link to the meeting
shortly before it commences.
February 2021
The Clinic building beside the school at Retiro is being used by the Public Health Nurse to do COVID testing in the local community. Many thanks to all the people volunteering their time to make this possible. See the "Photos & Videos" page of this website for pictures of the clinic being utilized.
April 2021
New books and learning supplies have been purchased and delivered to the school. Many thanks to the kind donors and volunteers that have made this possible....the students & teachers are very happy!
May 2021
Almost 200 "gift bags" filled with food and other supplies were distributed on Mothers Day to families near the school. See the "Photos & Videos" page of this website for photos of the food bags and the grateful recipients!
August 2021
New desks for the teachers have been delivered to the school along with some additional new desks for the students! The new desks are a vast improvement over what the teachers had been using previously and having flat, smooth surfaces to work from will be very helpful for both the teachers and the students during the coming school year. There are photos of the new desks on the "Photos & Videos" page on this website.

Christmas
Fundraiser for the schools.....Our FOH partners in Honduras are able to purchase food bags
containing enough beans, rice, sugar, flour, corn, oil, etc to feed a family of
4 for about a week. Each food bag costs approximately 600 lempira ($32CAN/$25US). FOH is trying to raise enough
money so that we can provide a bag of food to the families of every student at
the two schools in Retiro and Macuelizo at Christmastime. There are
approximately 360 families with students at the two schools so approximately $11,500(CAN)
is needed. If you would like to make a donation please click on

instructions on how to do that. Check back here often for updates on how
the fundraising is going....thanks everyone for your continued support.
October 12, 2021 - Fundraising update.....approximately $9000(CAN$) in donations has been received so far which will enable FOH to purchase food bags for 280 families! We are hoping to be able to provide food bags to 360 families this Christmas so we have a little ways to go yet. Thanks so much to all who have donated to this point.
October 18, 2021 - Fundraising update.....the fundraising total is now approximately $11,000(CAN$) with further donations continuing to come in! Based on the donation totals It looks like we will make our fundraising goal of $11,500 for food bags so any further funds that come in designated specifically for this project will go to purchase more food bags for additional families while undesignated/general fund donations will go toward school supplies for the students & teachers, maintenance and upgrades at the schools & medical clinic and food for a daily meal for the students at the school, Please see the "Donate Now" tab at the lower right corner of this page for instructions if you would like to make a donation to this project. Thanks again to everyone for your kind and generous donations!
October 25, 2021 - Fundraising update....the current donation total for the fundraiser is $13,705(CAN$) with $3405 donated specifically for food bags and $10,300 donated for general needs. Any donations designated for food bags will go to that fundraiser, the general funds will be used to top up the food bag fund to the target of $11,500 and any general funds over and above that total will be used to buy additional food bags, provide school supplies for the teachers & students, provide for maintenance & upkeep at the schools, provide a daily meal for the students while at school, etc. Thanks to everyone who has donated so far. November 12, 2021 - Fundraising update....the fundraising total is now just under $20,000 with just under $5000 of that total being designated for the Christmas Food Bags and the balance to general use funds. Thanks to everyone for their kind donations so far!
November 24, 2021 - Fundraising update....the fundraising total is now $25,500 with $8000 of that total being specifically designated for the Christmas Food Bags and the balance to general use funds. That leaves us $3500 short of the goal of $11,500 for Food Bags but if needed the Food Bag fund will be topped up from the general use funds. This means that 360 (or more) families of students at the two schools will receive the gift of a food bag this Christmas! Thanks again for all the kind and generous donations that have been made so far.

December 17, 2021 - Fundraising update...The Christmas Food Bag fundraiser has been a huge success! The initial goal was to raise $11,500(CAN$) so that FOH could provide a food bag to each of the families of the 360 students at the two schools in Retiro and Macuelizo at Christmastime (a food bag containing enough supplies to feed a family of 4 for about a week costs approximately $32CAN$). The fundraising total is now just over $27,000(CAN$) and what this means is that the needed funds have been sent to Honduras, our partners in Honduras have purchased the food bags and those food bags have now been distributed to the families of the students at the two schools (see the photos posted on the "Albums" page on this website showing the very grateful folks in Honduras that were on the receiving end of our donor’s incredible generosity!) With the additional monies that were raised and donated to the FOH general needs fund, FOH can continue to provide school supplies and a daily meal to the students plus general maintenance & upgrades to the two schools & the medical clinic. Many thanks to everyone who has so generously donated so far!
